Some ETFs tracking an index will publish their tracking error or tracking difference, or it can
be found on many websites. Where the data is not published, investors could calculate it on
an Excel spreadsheet or using various statistical or investment-related software packages. The
calculation will be simplest where the ETF and the index are both measured in the same
currency. Where the currency is different, investors may need to find a currency-hedged
version of the index to make a fair comparison.
